Outfit Of The Day - Nearly Spring!

Spring is FINALLY upon us and I for one am excited! I have been starting to get my Summer wardrobe sorted and one of the key pieces for me will be skirts that really nip in the waist then flare out with a flattering just below the knee length. I have been slowly collecting a few and have been trying out ways of wearing them while its still a bit chilly. Here is one quick outfit that I put together for a crisp Sunday afternoon.

Apologies for the state of my hair by the way. I'm going lighter for Summer so my hairdresser has asked me to try and take out as much hair dye as possible from my hair. At the moment I've got this upside down ombre look going on at the moment! More on that in another post though!

The British Tag

I was born and bred in good old Blighty so I thought this would be a fun tag to try! So here goes...

1. How many cups of tea do you drink a day? How many sugars?

Despite being British I don't actually really like tea! I am partial to a green tea however. Id say I drink 3-4 cups of green tea a day. No sugar. On the subject of hot beverages I do also love a good hot chocolate of an evening!

2. Favourite part of a roast?

Definitely roast potatoes  Or yorkshire puddings. If we're talking Christmas dinner though its got to be the pigs in blankets. Basically its all about the trimmings for me

3. Favourite dunking biscuit?

Ooooh its got to be a chocolate digestive. I love it when the chocolate bit melts and the biscuit bit goes a bit soggy. Mmmm!

4. Favourite quintessentially British pastime?

I love a picnic in the summer! Getting out the picnic blanket and eating jam sandwiches and cakes and drinking Pimms. Its all a very British affair!

5. Favourite word?

Kerfuffle. It means to create a commotion or a fuss about something

6. Cockney Rhyming Slang?

"Not a scooby" As in not a scooby do - not a clue

7. Favourite sweet?

Anything fizzy. I absolutely love pick and mix. Every time I see pick and mix in a shop I have to buy some! I recently came across the most incredible sweet shop near my mums house in the midlands and they sold literally every sweet going. I bought the biggest bag ever!

8. What would your pub be called?

The Snazzy Shack! There would be a pub quiz on a Monday night and a disco on a Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday we'd do a mean roast dinner

9. No.1 British Person?

Kirsty Allsopp! She came to do a seminar talk at an exhibition I was working at once and I was completely starstruck! Some may think thats rather sad! I absolutely LOVE her style when it comes to home decoration.

10. Favourite shop/restaurant?

I love having a nosey round independent shops and boutiques. The best boutiques are definitely in Brighton. Or I absolutely LOVE having a good nosey round a car boot sale! Thats not really a shop but it is British. When it comes to the highstreet though I guess its got to be good old Topshop. For restaurants, I'm not actually that into British food. Although there is a vegetarian restaurant in the midlands that I go to sometimes and they do the most amazing homemade salads and quiches and pizzas.

11. What British song pops into your head?

Anything by the Beatles of course! They say British people are born knowing the lyrics to all the Beatles songs...

12. Marmite?

See, this is a bit of an odd one for me... sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it! Basically I have to be in the right mood for it.

February Faves

This month is a real mish mash of bits and pieces I've been loving lately so lets get started...

Mac Eye Kohl - Smoulder

I've kind of rediscovered this one. I haven't worn eyeliner under my eyes in so long as I felt it made them look so much smaller and dull. Recently though I have seen various looks in magazines and on the catwalk which used black eyeliner under the eyes so decided to give it another whirl. I love the consistency of these Mac Pencils as they give off a good colour and are nice and soft. You don't feel like your stabbing yourself in the eye when using them. So far so good and I actually think it makes my eyes look more blue! I have a few of these pencils in various different colours and they also work great as an eyebrow pencil.

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Nourishing Repairer Shampoo & Conditioner

I once read somewhere that if you use the same shampoo and conditioner for too long then your hair gets used to it and it no longer works as well. This is probably complete poop but it has always stuck with me. Plus I just like to try out different ones anyway! This month I have been trying out Garnier Ultimate Blends The Nourishing Repairer Shampoo and Conditioner. Both are blended with avocado oil and shea butter to leave hair soft and shiny. I generally wash my hair about once every 3 days so need something really nourishing and conditioning for my hair and this really does the trick. My hair looks so much more healthy and there is no where near as much breakage as there was.

Witch Oil Control Foaming Facial Wash

I mentioned in a  previous blog post that I have been having a few problems with my skin. I suffer from PCOS which can give you very oily, spotty skin. This is not a good look when you are nearing 27 and also beginning to suffer from fine lines and wrinkles! The original medication I was on completely sorted out my skin and I had no problems until for many reasons it had to be changed and this caused my skin to go berserk! What has helped however is this facewash. You only need one pump as it is a foamy constancy so it lasts forever. I use this along with my usual Clinique clarifying lotion and moisturiser and it worked like a charm leaving my face squeaky clean and oil free. Tom would also like to add that he has been loving it too!

The Miniaturist

This month I really enjoyed The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. Set in 1686 Amsterdam, Nella Oortman is newly married and moves into her husbands home after meeting him just once at their wedding. He gives her a dolls house as a wedding present which is to be furnished by the Miniaturist. Nella soon becomes rather confused when the Miniaturists tiny creations begin to mimic her real life and even predict the future. The book is a bit of a slow starter but give it a chance and I promise you won't want to put it down. Once you have finished the book, promise me you'll go back and read chapter 1 again and all will make sense!

Snack a Jacks

I've been on a bit of a health kick this month. I joined a gym just after Christmas but wasn't able to use it much due to being away for work so often. Now I am back home though, I have been hitting the gym hard and really trying to change up my eating habits. Although I have fallen off the wagon a few times, I do feel so much better in myself and on the road to that summer body! These bad boys have been my snack of choice and I've been trying all the different flavours. The caramel is my top fave as it tastes like toffee popcorn!

Ive gone a bit shopping crazy recently. I think partly because I had a bit of a wardrobe clear out and the empty space was just too tempting to fill! Heres what I have been purchasing recently...

Aztec print Jacket - H&M (Not on the website but still in store)

 This is sort of a cardigan/jacket lovechild as its made of stretchy knitted material but is pretty thick and warm. It looks great over a shirt or vest top with jeans.
